Remember When Hip Hop was this? Remember When Hip Hop was that? At a time where the future of Hip Hop is regularly questioned, and the constant debate about what’s “real” is still a hot topic; it’s often times hard to see beyond the obvious. Whenthe same songs from the 70s and 80s were not only remixed in the 90s, but re-remixed again in the 2000s. When live instruments have been replaced with repetitive sounds. SoulChef’s release “Remember When…” takes a look back at the yesteryear of hip hop. His soulfully jazzy approach at production is mixed with live instruments and complimented by a talented line-up of artists who help paint his picture. This 10 track album is a nostalgic look at the fundamental Hip Hop we all originally fell in love with.

Honestly not much of a story to go behind this one. I had been holding onto this beat for a loooooooong time. Was really feelin’ myself with the way I chopped up the sample and the way it lead me to make that atypical drum pattern (Mr. Tronics does not use break beats or drum loops haha).
I tried passing this beat off to a few people in the camp and even wrote a few verses to it myself. I think it still goes hard, but after so many years of being locked up in the vault GoNuts died of suffocation. Shoulda took small breaths like Phil Cantone.
R.I.P. GoNuts

PREFACE: Beats die for various reasons. Wackness is the usual cause of death, but not always. Some of the beats I make die of old age, neglect, or even *gasp* viruses! Because I really only produce songs for the people on the Illamental team, a lot of beats don’t get used at all, even if they are/were bangers. Rather than let these beats continue to rot on my MPC, I’ve decided to at least attempt to give them some kind of shine before they are officially pronounced dead. Welcome to the Dead*Beats by Bamm Tronics.
“Bizness” is one of those beats that died of more than one cause. Old age was one of the causes of death, but the style of the beat created some additional complications. I found these Latin-ish horn loops on a record, and before I even sampled and chopped it up I already knew what I was getting myself into. The beat sounds “extra-joyous” which I must admit is not always the style of the Illamental kids. I figured I’d hold onto it for a while since I was thinking of expanding to producing for outside entities (that still ain’t panned out yet), but now this baby is the first on the Dead*Beats chopping block.
R.I.P., Bizness!
UPDATE: Right as I was about to start throwing dirt on Bizness, I looked closer and noticed the casket slowly opening, a hand emerging, holding a single argyle sock…
Bizness has been resurrected…
